Cordyceps mushroom is an effective cancer treatment, says new research

Researchers from the University of Nottingham have found that a rare, wild mushroom called cordyceps is an effective treatment for cancer. Commonly used in Chinese medicine, the cordyceps fungi inhibits the growth, division, and proliferation of cancer cells in the body.

Cordyceps was originally formulated into a cancer drug called cordycepin back in the 1950s. Though the drug version was ultimately found to be ineffective because of rapid degradation inside the body once it was administered, the active components from the mushroom continue to be effective cancer fighters.
Depending upon dosage levels, cordyceps mushroom extracts directly impact the process of cell protein development, impeding the production of the mRNA molecules that create them. At high doses, cordyceps inhibits protein development directly, essentially eliminating the ability of cancer cells to function and survive.

Life in the middle

This article brings understanding to the concept of meditation. But the paradox is to understand meditation is to stop thinking and simply be aware.

Amplifyd from ivancampuzano.com

Meditating does not mean to only concentrate, pure concentration makes you more closed and your mind duller. Meditation is something that is allowed to happen, a total relaxation, to be a witness of your internal world who remains passive and unattached. As you develop a knack for it you will see that the number of thoughts come down on their own accord.

Trying to control your thoughts still involves thinking, this is very subtle, you simply need an alert yet passive awareness, I know this sounds paradoxical and it is. Life is paradoxical. It is very difficult to describe a state of being that you need to discover on your own, because my description is not going to be the described. Its like asking someone how chocolate cake tastes, you can describe it but unless you eat it you will not know.

Look at your thoughts of anger, don’t run away from them, be with them entirely, they will fade and loose their grip on you.Read more at ivancampuzano.com

Cost of American healthcare

While there are some statistics which show U.S. health care provides better outcomes, (such as some cancer treatments), overall the average American isn’t getting his monies worth. Many, of course, have no coverage at all.

A study of international health care spending levels published in the health policy journal Health Affairs in the year 2000 found that the U.S. spends substantially more on health care than any other country in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and that the use of health care services in the U.S. is below the OECD median by most measures. The authors of the study conclude that the prices paid for health care services are much higher in the U.S.[42]

The CIA World Factbook ranked the United States 41st in the world for lowest infant mortality rate[103] and 46th for highest total life expectancy.[104] A recent study found that between 1997 and 2003, preventable deaths declined more slowly in the United States than in 18 other industrialized nations.Read more at en.wikipedia.org

Seaweed Extract May Hold Promise for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Treatment

Lymphoma is a cancer of the immune system and is classified into Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkin’s types, which are then further classified into B-cell and T-cell groups.

“Some forms of B-cell lymphoma are especially resistant to standard treatment and thus new therapies are needed,” said Mohammad Irhimeh, Ph.D., assistant professor of hematoncology and stem cells at the Hashemite University in Jordan. “In this study, we looked at a new treatment strategy using novel active compounds derived from a natural source — seaweed.”

Seaweeds containing fucoidan, a sulfated polysaccharide similar to heparin in chemical structure, have been reported to have anti-tumor activity in mice and some cell lines.

Suspended Animation

This clip came to me courtesy of meunierd. It discusses a new scientific discovery which allows a person to survive being frozen, losing oxygen, losing large amounts of blood, a major heart attack and so on by holding you in a suspended (almost lifeless) condition through the use of hydrogen sulphide.

For all you Canadians

This won’t have any meaning to those of you who haven’t spent some time in the Great White North. For those of you who have, it’ll tickle your fancy!

How to be a positive person

Just remember to add a pinch of skepticism with all that optimism! :)

How to Be a Positive Person

I’m not going to sell you on it, but if you’re interested, here’s the condensed guide to changing your own life:

Realize it’s possible, instead of telling yourself why you can’t.
Become aware of your self-talk.
Squash negative thoughts like a bug.
Replace them with positive thoughts.
Love what you have already.
Be grateful for your life, your gifts, and other people.
Every day.
Focus on what you have, not on what you haven’t.
Don’t compare yourself to others.
But be inspired by them.
Accept criticism with grace.
But ignore the naysayers.
See bad things as a blessing in disguise.
See failure as a stepping stone to success.
Surround yourself by those who are positive.
Complain less, smile more.
Image that you’re already positive.
Then become that person in your next act.
